Rubber and polyurethane technology for the tissue and cardboard sector
The tissue and cardboard converting sector requires rubber solutions capable of combining precision, strength, and production continuity, even under the most intensive cycles. From folding and gluing packaging to producing corrugated cardboard, from tissue embossing to flexographic and gravure printing for packaging, every stage of the process sets specific requirements in terms of hardness, viscoelasticity, and dimensional stability of the covering.
A.Piovan designs and manufactures custom rubber belts and rollers for these applications, developing compounds and carcass structures dedicated to each stage of processing: from the high-speed traction of belts for folder-gluers and cartoning machines, to the transformation of raw material in corrugators, through to the surface finishing of tissue, where embossing quality and the regularity of adhesive transfer determine the final result of the product.
What experience does A.Piovan offer its customers?
A.Piovan offers decades of experience in designing rubber coverings for both tissue and paper converting, supporting customers in choosing the most suitable solution for every stage of the production process.
What products can A.Piovan supply?
A.Piovan manufactures endless belts for folder-gluers and cartoning machines, belts for corrugators and for the production of tubes and cases, rollers for flexographic and gravure printing, feed and corrugating rollers, as well as specific coverings for tissue embossing and converting.
Why choose A.Piovan?
Thanks to decades of experience and the ability to work closely with machine manufacturers, A.Piovan is a strategic partner for those seeking reliability and production continuity in the tissue and cardboard sector.
Typical applications and compounds
Multilayer structure with cross-woven fabrics, high tensile strength, and low elongation, to ensure directional stability even at high speed
Standard black compounds with high mechanical strength, also available in conductive versions for ESA systems
Single-layer or double-layer rubber, with a softer base for better deformation and pulling capability
Compounds with special viscoelasticity, hardness grades 47-62 Shore A, for greater embossing depth at low working pressures
High hardness grades (85-95 Shore A) for extremely stable contact pressure in the nip
Technical insight
In folder-gluer machines, the quality of the transport belt has a direct impact on the precision of box folding and cutting: a multilayer carcass with low-elongation fabrics maintains linear feed even at high speed, avoiding the slippage phenomenon that would compromise the positioning of glue and folds.
- Truly endless belts: unlike spliced belts, they have no discontinuity point causing vibration, noise, and localized wear, ensuring smooth operation for the entire life of the belt
- Low-elongation weave: essential in folder-gluer machines to maintain constant register between the different folding, creasing, and gluing stations
- Rollers for printing with ESA (Electrostatic Assist) systems: controlled-resistivity coverings for correct transfer of the applied charge, increasingly required in packaging and decorative printing on cardboard
- Cylinders and sleeves for laser engraving: an alternative to traditional photopolymer, with better abrasion resistance and higher printing speeds
In tissue converting, embossing depth and adhesive transfer quality depend largely on the viscoelasticity of the covering: softer, high-resilience compounds allow larger-volume rolls with fewer meters of paper, while keeping a softer feel; very smooth surfaces, on the other hand, ensure even adhesive distribution across the entire sheet.
- Coverings for embossing with special viscoelasticity: greater embossing depth at the same working pressure, with longer intervals between regrinding
- Coverings for cliché rollers with a surface smoothed by microparticles: for regular, uniform adhesive transfer across the full width of the sheet
- Resistance to coating products and the most aggressive water-based dispersions: without loss of covering adhesion to the metal core over time
