Silicone roller covering
The surface of the roller comes into direct contact with the processed material, be it fabric, technical nonwoven, extruded plastic film, or a treated substrate, and significantly affects the final quality, production continuity, and cycle efficiency.
The two main application areas that motivate the use of silicone-coated rollers are: the textile finishing sector (pressing, calendering, embossing, and laminating stations) and the plastics processing sector (cast lines and corona treatment stations), where the critical variables are dimensional stability under load, thermal behavior in operation, resistance to tearing stress, and the anti-adhesive properties of the surface.
Main features of silicone rollers:
- Standard thermal resistance up to 200°C with the option of reaching temperatures up to 300°C
- Compounds with hardnesses from 20 to 90 ShA
- Excellent chemical resistance, with caution against some mineral oils that may cause swelling
- Excellent resistance to ozone and UV rays
Available in both coloured and black versions, as well as in special versions for:
- Increased thermal conductivity (thermal conductive) or electrical conductivity (antistatic, conductive);
- Increased resistance in steamy environments;
- High mechanical strength (for high compressive loads) with optimized metal bonding
- High (and extremely high) tear resistance (for environments with high dynamic stresses and risk of surface cracking) with optimized metal bonding
- Increased non-stick performance at both low and high process temperatures (applications where the material being processed tends to surface stick)
- Increased resistance to process oils.
- Expanded version and multilayer combinations of expanded silicone and standard silicone
FDA versions are also available.
Technical dialogue between the cylinder user and the coating manufacturer is essential to optimize the choice and maximize the component’s lifespan. In both the textile and plastics industries, production continuity and the surface quality of the finished product are primary process factors and generate direct value.
