Rubber coating for rings and spacers
When it comes to slitting lines, cross-cutting, and shearing of thin sheets and light strips up to a thickness of 0.8mm, the rubber coating represents the ideal choice.
A medium hardness of 80Sh also ensures the necessary grip without transferring localized pressure that would cause marking or micro-deformation on the coil surface, which is the engineering balance point between grip and surface conformability.
For thicknesses below 0.8 mm, the comparison changes compared to applications on thick sheet metal: surface conformability becomes a priority over pure mechanical strength.
The main advantages to keep in mind are:
- No marking on the strip: Conformability distributes the load over a larger contact area compared to higher hardness values, eliminating the localized stresses that cause marking on galvanized and pre-painted surfaces.
- Resistance to mineral oils: The selected compound is specifically designed for resistance to mineral oils
- Grip on lubricated strip: The friction coefficient of our compound remains stable in the presence of the oily film typical of mill strips
- Abrasion resistance: we provide a compound with excellent anti-wear characteristics
- Cost and service life: For applications on thin strips with low contact pressure, this solution offers an optimal cost/durability ratio
It is essential to consider that the coating can be applied as a sleeve or vulcanized directly onto the metal core. In this second case, using a specific primer we can ensure adhesion and improve load resistance; furthermore, the final grinding brings the outer diameter to dimensional tolerance with a roughness of Ra 0.8–1.6 μm, optimal for contact with thin strips. A restoration grinding service is available for worn rings, with adhesion verification prior to processing.
