Rubber conveyor belt with textile backing for tanneries
In leather finishing, the belt operates in contact with water- or solvent-based coatings, pigments, base coats, and top coats. An unsuitable covering will swell, lose flatness, or degrade, resulting in uneven application.
A.Piovan supplies belts for the main leather finishing machines:
- Roller coaters: application of base coats, pigments, and finishes with consistent coating weights.
- Pigmenting and roller dyeing machines: linear movement and uniform surface for homogeneous coverage.
- Roller printing and embossing lines: coverings with calibrated hardness to absorb variations in leather thickness.
Each covering is selected based on the type of product applied and the solvents involved. For applications requiring non-stick properties, a non-stick silicone belt with textile backing is also available.
The belt consists of three layers, each configurable according to the machine and process.
- Running surface (inner side): the part in contact with the machine rollers.
- Raw finish: standard version.
- With rubber covering: prevents edge curling and ensures smoother, vibration-free operation.
- With “spinning” covering: low coefficient of friction and extended service life.
- Fabric carcass (textile backing): ensures mechanical stability and limits elongation.
- 2-ply: standard version.
- 3 or more plies: for heavier loads and widths exceeding 2000 mm. The textile solutions developed by A.Piovan also offer low friction and vibration-dampening properties. Belt centering is facilitated even when the belt length is short relative to its width.
- Covering (working side): protects the carcass, guides the hides into the machine, and compensates for thickness variations. The elastomer is selected based on the product with which the belt comes into contact.

The choice of covering depends primarily on the chemistry of the applied product. The following are the most popular options; we can also develop specific compounds upon request:
