Rubber sleeves for buffing machines
When buffing leather, the result depends on the uniformity of the pressure applied across the entire surface; since leather thickness varies, the sleeve must possess the right degree of softness to ensure effective buffing. The right sleeve compensates for variations in the material, delivering a consistent finish, whether correcting the grain, preparing nubuck, or creating a suede effect on split leather.
The A.Piovan sleeve is the result of direct collaboration with tanneries; it allows even older-generation buffing machines to be fitted with an upgraded support roller at a highly competitive price compared to original spare parts.
A.Piovan offers one of the most extensive ranges of leather buffing sleeves, featuring over eight rubber types and dozens of different profiles.
Three product families cover virtually all applications; the selection is made collaboratively, based on the specific leather being processed and the desired finish.
- Solid rubber (hardnesses from 14 to 30 Sh A): offers a more direct response and greater durability, ideal for processes requiring firm, consistent buffing.
- Sponge-backed rubber (14–30 Sh A rubber on an intermediate sponge or foam cushion): the surface resists wear, while the cushion absorbs variations in leather thickness.
- Foam rubber (cellular rubber in five porosity grades): the most versatile solution, suitable for delicate or highly irregular leather. Each grade is identified by a code and color for instant recognition on the production floor.
Each sleeve is manufactured to match the roller profile, whether straight or conical, and is available in dozens of diameters compatible with buffing machines used in tanneries worldwide.
