Metal sheet sector
On metal strip processing lines, from pickling to annealing, and from galvanizing to coil coating, every roller and every covering operates under extreme conditions: high temperatures, aggressive chemical agents, sustained line speeds, and continuous mechanical stresses. In this context, the choice of compound and covering technology is not a minor detail, but a decisive factor for the quality of the finished product and the continuity of the plant’s production.
A.Piovan designs and manufactures custom rubber and polyurethane components for every stage of the process: pull and idler rollers, pressure rollers, coverings for high-temperature zones, applicator rollers for coating, and solutions for strip washing and drying. With a range of compounds designed to withstand abrasion, rolling oils, acid and alkaline baths, and the high temperatures at furnace exit, we offer machine manufacturers and end users in the metallurgical sector a technical partner capable of guaranteeing dimensional precision, adhesion, and long service life even in the harshest environments
What experience does A.Piovan offer its customers?
On sheet metal processing lines, from pickling lines to annealing, and from galvanizing to painting, rubber and polyurethane components must guarantee mechanical strength, pulling power, dimensional precision, and long service life in aggressive environments.
What products can A.Piovan supply?
The range includes bridle rolls, pressure and idler rollers, rollers and coverings for cutting lines, applicator rollers for coating, squeegee rollers for strip washing and drying, as well as specific coverings for high-temperature zones at the exit of the annealing furnace, selecting specific compounds for each operating condition.
Why choose A.Piovan?
Close collaboration with sheet metal machine manufacturers makes it possible to develop tailor-made solutions, optimizing adhesion, strip control, and abrasion resistance. A reliable technical partner for OEMs and end users in the metallurgical sector.

Technical insight
Continuous metal strip lines (pickling, annealing, galvanizing, coil coating, electrolytic tinning) share a common structure of critical positions (uncoiler, looper, bridle roll, cleaning section, coating applicator, furnace, exit looper, recoiler), each with specific requirements in terms of pulling power, chemical resistance, and temperature behavior. The quality of the final product depends largely on the uniformity of paint and chemical treatment application on the strip, which is entrusted to the applicator rollers.
- The choice between rubber and polyurethane covering for applicator rollers depends on the type of paint or chemical treatment: polyurethane generally guarantees greater cut and wear resistance, while rubber offers greater formulation flexibility for particularly aggressive chemicals
- Dynamic balancing of large-diameter, long rollers: a critical requirement on high-speed lines, where even small imbalances translate into vibrations and premature wear of the covering
- Squeegee rollers for cleaning, pickling, and drying: resistance to acid and alkaline baths and industrial cleaning products
- Tungsten carbide or chromium carbide coatings for high-temperature rollers (up to 950-1150°C): used on furnace rollers and in highly corrosive environments, as an alternative to traditional chrome plating
- Lightweight solutions for horizontal looper and strip support rollers: reduced weight and inertia to improve bearing life and operating safety
- Maintenance and refurbishment service: disassembly, inspection, precision grinding, and re-vulcanization to extend the service life of existing rollers rather than replacing them
- Custom finishes: cylindrical grinding, blade grooving, crowned or parabolic profiles, and camber calculation based on load and strip width
- Lightweight elastic mandrel sleeves for uncoilers and recoilers, with advantages in terms of ergonomics and ease of installation
