Polyurethane paper roller shafts

In the paper industry, the rewinding phase represents one of the most critical points of the entire production line. The quality of the finished roll depends largely on the mechanical properties and wear resistance of the contact parts. Among these, the paper winding shaft plays a key role.

Elastomeric polyurethane coating is now an excellent solution, technologically more consolidated as it combines excellent mechanical properties, high abrasion resistance, good vibration damping, and remarkable dimensional stability in the face of thermal variations typical of the machine environment.

Properly selecting the coating specifications is a process variable, with a direct impact on the quality of the finished product and the efficiency of the plant.

For poles up to 10,000 mm in length and 1,050 mm in diameter, A. Piovan provides superior quality solutions using its advanced technologies:

  • The metal core is pre-sandblasted, degreased and primed.
  • The polyurethane coating is applied using a “ribbon flow” process with the widest possible hardness range, starting with the most typical hardness for the application, 90-92 Shore A, corresponding in practical terms to 10-15 P&J points.
  • A post-curing phase follows to ensure the material reaches its optimal physical and mechanical characteristics.
  • The coating is finished and the dynamic balancing is checked/adjusted.

The ability to process poles of these sizes with this coating allows us to meet the vast majority of the paper industry’s needs, positioning A.Piovan as a leading company for winding applications where product quality and production continuity are non-negotiable requirements.
